Justin being announced as the winner of The World Cook.png

The first ever "The World Cook" Champion

Chef Justin was the first ever winner of the The World Cook.

​

Hosted by Fred Sirieix and Emma Willis, 16 cooks from around the world come together to compete in a game-changing culinary competition.


Each of the 16 chefs were from, & representing their respective countries. Being Jamaica, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, America,  Sweden, India, Mexico, Portugal, South Africa, Canada, Belgium, Philippines, England and of course Australia.

The competition started in London with all of the chefs being put into head to head battles, with only the winner of each battle advancing to the next round. At the end of the 1st day, 8 chefs were eliminated!

​

From there the competition took chefs through Amsterdam, Majorca, Croatia, Austria & Italy. By the end of the Italy leg, there were just 2 chefs left. Halleem Card of Jamaica & Justin Jennings of Australia.

​

The final was held on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Both of the chefs attended masterclasses in Mexican cuisine, learning all they could, because they knew that the final would require them to use these Traditional techniques.

​

In the end, the Judges of the Mexico round, Masterchef Judge Marcus Wearing, Jonathan Lopes, Grace Dent, Emma Willis & Fred Siriex Crowned chef Justin Jennings The World Cook Champion.

About Chef Justin Jennings

Chef Justin Jennings was born in Australia in 1982.


Justin is Owner and Executive Chef of Australian themed Restaurant “Downunder by Justin Jennings” which opened its doors in February 2017 and is situated in Lisbon, Portugal. Justin is also owner & chef of catering company "Justin Jennings Private Chef".


In his early teens Justin was drawn to commercial kitchens. Winning the title of “Young chef of the year” in Australia at age 23.


During his over 20 years in the industry, Justin has assumed many head chef roles in restaurants and hotels, as well as completing a teaching degree and sharing his acquired skills as a commercial cooking instructor.


In 2015 Justin spent time as a chef/consultant in Hong Kong, opening 5 restaurants in 3 months, before settling in Portugal with his wife and 2 young boys to open “Downunder  by Justin Jennings”.


Justin's father & grandparents were farmers and keen fisherman. His mother is a cook, and his father also worked in the food and beverage industry.

 

From a young age, Justin developed a strong passion for sustainable farming, fishing, hunting & foraging. This directly translates to his deep understanding of fresh, locally sourced produce, and its importance in the modern kitchen.

Currently Justin lives in Portugal, but continues his world wide tour in search of amazing flavours and ingredients at every chance he gets.
